Collection: OTTMAR HÖRL
Ottmar Hörl (born 1950) is one of Germany's best-known contemporary artists. He studied in Frankfurt and Hamburg and was professor and later president of the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg.
Hörl is famous for his large serial installations in public space, in which hundreds or even thousands of identical figures fill a square or a city: 7,000 hares in Nuremberg as a tribute to Albrecht Dürer, or 800 Martin Luther figures on the market square of Wittenberg. With these works he makes art accessible to everyone and asks questions about originals and copies, identity and mass culture.
His garden gnomes are a perfect example: the classic German garden gnome, reinterpreted with humour and irony. Through gesture and colour, a familiar kitsch object becomes a comment on society, from the optimist with raised thumbs to the three wise gnomes who hear, see and speak no evil.
At I❤️DESIGN you will find Ottmar Hörl's 'Hear, See & Speak no Evil' gnomes in several colours, the Optimist, Victory and Sponti gnomes, and the Worldview model.
